EMILY Newett is days away from parting with the one thing most teenage girls never would.
In the name of charity, the youngster will say goodbye to her long locks.
The 14-year-old wanted to help out any way she could after learning a family friend had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Emily’s friend, another 14-year-old girl, has undergone treatment and numerous operations.
Emily will cut off her hair over the weekend to raise money that will go to the Cancer Council.
She put things into perspective when she was quizzed about the upcoming trim.
“I don’t mind at all, it’s for a good cause,” she said.

“Most people have said it’s a good thing and others are saying I’ll look a little weird without any hair,” she said.
“It’s going to be interesting what I’ll look like, but I’m more worried about raising the money.”
She said she was aiming at a goal of $1,000 and said she was already part way there.
But, it looks as though Emily won’t be the only one donning the crew cut and will have a little help with the fundraising.
She has managed to talk her friend, Cody Temple, into loosing his locks as well.
“It looks as though the date for the shave will be this weekend,” Emily’s mother Jodi said.
“It’s exciting, she’s doing it for a good cause.”
