V8 SUPERCAR hall-of-famer Allan Moffat was in Port Macquarie over the weekend to promote the opening of the town’s new Tyreright store.
“I’m always delighted to come up here to Port Macquarie,” Moffat said.
“I’ve been friends with Andrew Miedecke for 30 years and it’s always a pleasure to see him.”
Moffat still watches his beloved sport, mainly because his youngest son is now a driver.
“I still take a keen interest in racing because my son, James, is participating in Bathurst with his Norton Nissan team who will run four cars which is the biggest push Nissan has done in a long time,” he said.
“Alongside them, the new boys on the block will be two Mercedes cars so it’s going to be a very exciting series.”
Moffat, who won the Australian Tour Car Championship and Bathurst four times, is a veteran of racing in Australia and said he sees the sport getting bigger and better in the country, especially with the two new car makes coming in this year.
“I think the addition of the Nissan input, because of the backing the manufacturer will give it, will be enormous,” he said.
“Mercedes aren’t the poorest company in the world and have been around for over 100 years so they’ll both put their best feet forward.
