Owner, designer and builder Christian Corse from Extreme Velocity has sold the engineering marvel to Coffs City Skydivers in Coffs Harbour.
The impressive construction was both built and designed here in Port Macquarie by Mr Corse – an aircraft engineer.
He told Port News on Wednesday that it was the right time to move on.
The wind tunnel which is the only one in the Southern Hemisphere has been operating for three years from Tuffins Lane across from the Port Macquarie Airport.
In those three years Mr Corse has put 11,000 thrill seekers through their paces in his machine.
Mr Corse said while he will be sad to see it go he had another project in mind he was interested in getting up and running but refused to elaborate.
“With everything going on as well as spending time with my family it was just the right time to sell,” Mr Corse said. “I’m disappointed it’s going out of the area but I’m also looking at another project. I’m right into these type of adventure and adrenaline sports, but that’s all I’m going to say.”
He did say that if he is granted approval for the new “project” he would only operate it from on, or near, the Port Macquarie headland.
“Once I go through all the steps of talking with council and everyone involved and as soon as I get the all clear I’ll get into building it,” he said.
“And by the time I start building it, it would probably take about four months to complete.
“Put it this way, it would put Port Macquarie back on the map but I’ve got to go through all these steps first.”
Mr Corse said the last day of operation for the wind tunnel before being packed up and transported to Coffs Harbour would be Sunday February 24.
He said there will be a farewell party on that weekend. For more information call Mr Corse on 0447 359 669.
