The State Emergency Service NSW has conscripted extra support at its Taree base for any emerging weather issues on the Mid North Coast.
SES spokesperson Phil Campbell said while the rain will remain heavy today and tonight, he expects the major problems with flash flooding to potentially come today and tomorrow.
Mr Campbell sent out a particular warning for campers, tourists and those unfamiliar with the local area.
"Anybody here for camping o
r water sports should avoid going into floodwaters and if you set up your campsite make sure it is in the open and away from trees to avoid any potential danger from the wild weather," he said. "The most important message we can get across is that everybody stays clear of any flood water with the wind and rain coming into our system."
The SES are keeping a close eye on the Camden Haven River, Settlement Point and all the usual flood-prone areas. Their advice from the the Bureau is that things in the Greater Port Macquarie region will not pick up until later tomorrow.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.
Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
