On behalf of the Elvis Festival Committee and the people of Parkes, I would like to publicly thank Helen and John Rowe of Port Macquarie on the magnificent job they both did during the Parkes Elvis Festival earlier this month.

We, my husband Dick and I, used to be neighbours of Helen and John’s at Port Macquarie in the late ‘90s and have remained close friends ever since.
Whilst travelling in their caravan on holidays earlier this year they called in for a cup of coffee on Saturday, January 5, at our house [in Parkes] to say hello and catch up with us both.
We said to them that they should stay for a few days and enjoy the festival as it is one of the best festivals in Australia.
John and Helen said that they would love to, but only on the condition that they would give us a hand working at Elvis Central which is where we sell wigs, sunglasses and other Elvis Presley memorabilia.
I don’t think they knew what they were letting themselves in for as we are always extremely busy at Elvis Central serving thousands of people that come through the doors every day.
Well, I can tell you without Helen and John’s help I don’t know where we would have been as they were absolutely sensational.
Helen was spot on with her beautiful smile whilst serving lots of people on one of the cash registers and John had everyone in stitches with his many colourful renditions of Elvis songs whilst playing his blow up guitar.
He also took on the job of driving people out to the Parkes Radio Telescope (The Dish) in our shuttle bus whilst giving them an excellent commentary along the way.
They have told us they had a fabulous time and would be back again next year and as this is now in print for everyone to read - we will definitely keep them to that.
As Elvis used to say: “Thank you, thank you, thank you very much”.
