EDITORIAL: Reports highlight need for caution

TODAY we have reported on yet another incident involving a child being approached in the Camden Haven.

It is the third such incident in recent weeks.

While there is no need for parents to over-react, there is certainly a need for them to remain vigilant – particularly with most local students returning to school next week.

They need be on the lookout for any suspicious activity and they need to make an extra effort to know where their children are at all times.

Just as importantly, they need to have a talk with their children about ‘stranger danger’ and about what to do –and what not to do–if they are approached by someone they don’t know.

At the same time, residents of the Port Macquarie-Hastings region should be doing everything they can to help police catch the person or persons responsible and to ensure our children can walk the streets in safety
