The first meeting will deal with the building and design components, while the second meeting will concentrate on the proposed uses.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has secured $2.8 million from the federal government for two extra indoor multi-purpose courts and $2.5 million for PCYC facilities at Port Macquarie Indoor Sports Stadium.
Mayor Peter Besseling said the meetings would not be a discussion around whether or not the stadium would be expanded.
“Council has already decided to move forward with that,” he said.
“This is an opportunity to try to have some of the concerns addressed that might be around the building design prior to a development application being submitted.”
Cr Besseling said the consultation aimed to get the right result for the broader community and residents of Hastings River Drive and Woods Street.
Nearby residents have raised concerns about noise and anti-social behaviour due to the PCYC proposal’s proximity to a residential area. The first meeting will be held on Thursday from 6pm at the SES building in Central Road.
Thursday’s meeting will review the proposed building concept designs and ancillary features, taking into account the feedback from earlier community consultation.
The proposed future uses of the expanded facility will be examined during the follow-up February 13 meeting.
There will be a presentation of operating models from the PCYC, indoor sports and gymnastics centres. People will be able to put questions to PCYC management during the February 13 meeting which will be held from 6pm at the SES building.
Each meeting will be limited to 100 people given venue restrictions.
A concept plan was tabled at the December council meeting when it was agreed to go ahead with comprehensive community engagement and further consider the feedback before moving to detailed design phase.
A project reference group is also being formed which will act as a further point of contact with the community and ensure a regular flow of information between the community, councillors and council staff.
