All signs Point to success

TACKING Point Surf Lifesaving Club’s women’s Boomsticks surfboat crew are bathed in a golden glow, after taking first place at the Country Championships at South West Rocks on the weekend.

The girls took victory by a whopping 10 lengths on Saturday, continuing their strong form in competitions this season.

They cannot be beated in the North Coast Surfboat Series, with two rounds remaining.

Sweep Kevin Owens said the team just had to “show up” to win.

“They have a 24-point lead,” he said.

But the accolades don’t end there. The crew now have the chance to row with an Australian touring team, and will trial for a place on the plane on January 27 at North Wollongong.

Thirty invitations went out to clubs, and Tacking Point is one of 16 to accept.

They will now head into a three-race row-off, and could be in New Zealand for a test series from February 7-11.

Owens said they needed a big win on the weekend to justify the invite to North Wollongong.

“They needed to stamp their authority,” he said.

It’s coming together at the right time of the season, Owens said. “It’s the business end,” he said.

The club’s A team finished fourth on the weekend. The masters also finished fourth.
