Racing NSW announced today that sections of the Taree racecourse were deemed unsafe and not fit for racing.
The race club's January 22 meeting has been moved to Port Macquarie.
Club director Don Hopkins told Fairfax the racecourse had been recently renovated and new turf laid.
"The grass hasn't grown as quickly as we would have expected, partly due to dry conditions and I guess a lack of rain,"he said.
Mr Hopkins said he club hoped the track would be ready for racing by the club's next race meeting on February 15.
He said the club may plan another race day for the sponsors of the next Tuesday's meeting.
"Port Macquarie have been very cooperative and there's reasonably good spirits between the clubs up here and we try and help each other out," Mr Hopkins said. "Port has done that for us."
