Mitch is bound for the SCG

UP-AND-coming Hastings cricketer Mitchell Dickson will get the chance of a lifetime on Friday.

He will get the opportunity to mingle with members of the Australian cricket team before they take the field for the second day of the third Test against Sri Lanka at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The 14-year-old Port City Leagues Magpie fourth grader is one of just a handful selected throughout the state. The youngster is a wicketkeeper-batsman and bats anywhere from three to five.

Despite being at such a tender age, Dickson has managed some impressive scores so far this year. He’s scored 195 runs at an average of 32.5 in 2012/13.

Dickson’s highest score of 71 came in his first match this season, against Port Panthers Pirates Sea Dogs in round three. He’s taken three wickets so far, with 2-9 his best figures.

His father Ian said Dickson was showing solid form in his first year in fourth grade. The talented sportsman said he was most excited about meeting outgoing Australian player Michael Hussey.

“I’m really excited, I can’t wait,” he said. “I’m really grateful to my club for nominating me to take part in it.” Dickson is also a keen Aussie rules player and said it was his favourite sport, along with cricket.
