FOR many years now, regional destinations have looked on the Parkes Elvis Festival with a degree of jealousy.
The event is a little different from the norm, but one that continues to grow and attract national attention. Parkes is now widely known as the Elvis capital of Australia, and enjoys an economic bonanza every January with the arrival of thousands of The King’s fans and impersonators.
There’s no reason why a similar idea can’t take place right here in Port Macquarie.
While The Beatles fans will be celebrating news of a Fab Four festival being planned for the city in March next year, businesses and tourism operators also have reason embrace Beatlemania.
With time, an annual Beatles festival has the potential to attract thousands of visitors of all ages from across the nation and even from overseas.
It could become another event showcasing the Port Macquarie region’s natural beauty and everything else it has to offer at a traditionally slow time of the year.
Anything that attracts visitors to the region and helps inject money into the community warrants our support –particularly if it has the potential to grow into something as big as the annual Parkes Elvis Festival.
Love them or loathe them, The Beatles have been the most defining influence in music history. As for a Beatles festival in Port Macquarie: “Yeah, yeah, yeahs.”
