Yesterday, 46 years on, Cecile Yazek visited Port Macquarie Library to promote her first cookbook, Mezze to Milk Tart.
The vegetarian cookbook comes on the back of a successful memoir titled Olive Trees around My Table.
Mezze to Milk Tart comprises 270 recipes with the flavours of the Middle East and Africa.
Yazek’s passion developed into a profession when she opened her own Sydney cooking school after moving to Australia 26 years ago.
“When I came to Australia, people asked me what I ate. They hadn’t seen a fat vegetarian before,” she said.
The vegetarian has always been interested in ways for people to incorporate more vegetables in their diet.
As an author, the passionate cook assures readers. her recipes are simple and can be cooked by anyone.
“The recipes were tested and even teenagers at my cooking school could cook them.” Yazek said.
Both Mezze to Milk Tart and Olive Trees around My Table are available from the Port Macquarie Library.
