If anyone is going to know about the state of our roads, it’s Mr Cattell. He drives a taxi for Port Macquarie Taxi Cabs.
The road that leads from the Port Macquarie airport is in dire need of repair, he says.
“Of all the roads that need fixing around here, you would think (Port Macquarie-Hastings) council would get in and fix this one,” he said.
“For a lot of people flying into Port Macquarie, it’s their first impression of the town and at the moment it’s not very good.”
Not only does it provide a negative first impression of the town, Mr Cattell said it was dangerous and was an accident waiting to happen.
“I’ve had a couple of people comment about the road after I pick them up from the airport. One time I was driving along and a car ahead of me hit a pot hole and blew a tyre. If you don’t know what to expect it can be very dangerous.”
He said he would like to see the council address the issue as soon as possible.
Council’s manager of infrastructure and operations Gary Randall told the Port News repair work would be complete on the road by the end of the week.
“Council is aware of this pothole and has received a number of customer inquiries regarding the street,” he said. “As part of Council’s roadworks maintenance program, a priority list has been developed, with emphasis placed on works for high traffic roads.
“As such, scheduled remediation works were identified for Boundary Street.”
