They believe it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or even killed.
In just a matter of two days, a 91-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man were targeted in their homes by cowardly attackers.
On Thursday two men entered the home of the 91-year-old woman and demanded cash.
The victim was pushed by one of the offenders but was uninjured.
The 84-year-old victim of Saturday morning's attack was lucky to escape with minor injuries after fighting off his two would-be attackers.
Ernie Whitfield was confronted by two men who were armed with a knife and a steel bar.
The elderly man managed to turn the tables on the two offenders and chased them from his premises.
A police spokesman said if residents ever find themselves in a similar situation to comply with the offenders.
"Let them get what they are after and let them leave," he said.
"You shouldn't act out violently unless you are being attacked and then defend yourself at all costs."
Six offenders stormed their way into a Kempsey home recently and held the two home owners captive for sometime before fleeing.
Another home invasion occurred in Taree on Friday night. This time three offenders broke into a 79-year-old man's home armed with a knife.
The man was wrestled to the ground and the trio demanded cash.
They eventually fled with money and a mobile phone.
