A baby ring-tail this week caught a ride home with the house cat.
Owner Adam Hutchison, 35, and partner Tracey received a shock when Pugsley wandered into their Port Macquarie home with the tiny marsupial snuggled on his back.
The two were practically inseparable until the possum was handed over to professional carers.
“He just walked in with him on his back,” Mr Hutchison said.
“I’d say the mother’s probably been killed or something on the road, and he’s walked past to sniff it, and just jumped on his back.
“It could only happen in this house – we’ve
got three dogs, two cats, a bird, a tank full of fish ... and now a possum.”
The baby ring-tail now is in the care of native
animal rescue group For Australian Wildlife Needing Aid (FAWNA) volunteers.
FAWNA secretary Meredith Ryan said
anyone who found injured or abandoned native wildlife should call the group’s 24-hour rescue line on 6581 4141.
