It was the first win in the event for the Kensington based triathlete, who has completed in all but one of the Port Macquarie half-distance races.
Marangon went into yesterday’s race with “no real expectations” after competing at the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships at Perth just over a week ago.
Despite finishing seventh in Western Australia, Marangon remains the number-one ranked athlete in the world for the three-discipline event.
The 24-year-old was thrilled with her breakthrough win in Port Macquarie.
“I have been really sleepy since Perth but yesterday [Saturday] I got this huge energy boost, which I stored and unleashed today,” she admitted.
“That was probably my fastest swim over the distance, so I am rapt.”
The fitness instructor, who juggles work, training and motherhood, described the Port Macquarie course as “beautiful”.
“The race conditions today were the best I have ever raced in.”
But, it is back to reality today for the single mum, who returned to Sydney after the race to get her son off to school.
“My nine-year old son Josh is my number one priority,” Marangon said.
“My family is very supportive and that allows me the time to compete.
“I really appreciate just being able to race.”
Marangon will return for Ironman Australia in March next year.
And, the professional racer wants the full-distance event to remain in Port Macquarie.
“It would be a shame if Port Macquarie lost the Ironman.
“They will lose numbers if they move it.”
