WHERE do you start?
In one of the most mismatched Group 2 encounters of recent times, the Port Macquarie Sharks annihilated the Dunghutti Broncos 130-0 at the Regional Sports Stadium yesterday.
Luckily, the combatants played on the back field, so there was no need for a scoreboard attendant.
In all, the Sharks ran in a total of 23 tries, seven to promising five-eighth Shaun Carney.
But, Carney was not alone – second-rower Michael Bright and prop Matt Blake posted three each, while front-rower Kurt Molony and centre Addam Greenaway grabbed two apiece.
Carney also booted a phenomenal 19 goals, from 24 attempts, for a personal haul of 66 points.
The Sharks had the match wrapped up by half-time, enjoying a 54-0 advantage.
Bright opened the scoring in the third minute and was soon followed by Carney (6th, 13th), Blake (9th, 15th), winger Scott Gallagher (18th), halfback Clinton Foot (27th), Lester Holten (32nd), hooker Jeremy Lang (35th) and interchange forward Anthony Shipway (38th).
Carney landed seven conversions but, ironically, missed a rare eight-point opportunity when the referee awarded a penalty following Lang’s try.
Even with Foot (53rd) and Molony (54th) sin-binned in the second half, the Sharks continued their procession with Carney (43rd, 62nd, 66th, 69th, 71st), Blake (47th), Greenaway (56th, 76th), lock Joel Asher (58th), Bright (59th, 64th) and Molony (74th, 78th) all touching down.
Carney added another 12 goals to his tally.
Although the Sharks wanted a return to the winner’s circle, the match was hardly the right preparation for this weekend’s showdown with top five outfit, the Woolgoolga Sea Horses.
The Broncos stunned the hosts in the two lower grade encounters.
