THE scene is set for a big occasion.
And, the Hastings Valley Onyx representative team is hoping to join the festivities with a win over Coffs Harbour in tomorrow’s Lifestyle Magazine Netball Premier League grand final at Macquarie Park.
The long-awaited decider will also run in conjunction with the local association’s Community Spirit Day.
A jumping castle, face painting, raffles, chocolate wheel, a band and lots of fun for the entire family just adds to the atmosphere.
The Onyx have won the past two encounters between the combatants, however Coffs Harbour is looking to rectify this by upsetting the applecart on Hastings Valley’s home turf.
“We’ve had a fantastic preparation,” coach Liz van der Linden told the Port News.
“We did exceptionally well at the recent State Championships and achieved our highest ranking.
“The Hastings Valley outfit boasts 10 strong players and a wonderful bench, which I’ll utilise throughout the encounter.
“But, we also know that Coffs Harbour is keen to come back at us after our win over them in the major semi-final.
“They’ll be keen and hungry, and we won’t be taking them lightly.”
A victory tomorrow will erase last year’s grand final nightmare too, according to van der Linden.
“We let it slip in 2008 against Taree,” she admitted.
“So, the girls are out to atone that result this time around.
“Hosting the match at Macquarie Park, when the association is conducting its Community Spirit Day, is a wonderful addition.
“We’re determined to use the ‘atmosphere’ to our advantage.”
The grand final is scheduled to start at 12.30pm.
