Prince Peisley

PORT Macquarie jockey Danny Peisley dethroned Peter Graham as the king of “Woop Woop” at the Wauchope Jockey Club’s Boxing Day meeting at the Beechwood Road circuit on Saturday.

The traditional non-TAB event is usually Graham’s domain.

In 2007, the champion hoop bagged four winners and a second on the five-race card.

Last year, Graham secured a victory and two thirds.

And, while he snared a hat-trick on the weekend, it was Peisley who shared the riding limelight after saluting the judges aboard Bandmaster in the Wauchope Stock And Estate Agents Pty Ltd Woop Woop Cup and Dunk’n’disorderly in the John O’Brien/Doug Jones Memorial Maiden Plate.

Wauchope trainer Grant Prosser also celebrated on his home track, with a winning treble, which included Bandmaster.

The six-year-old gelding, the $1.80 favourite, proved too strong for its rivals, taking out the feature race by more than three-and-a-half lengths.

Royal Air ($5.50) and Chickasaw ($7) filled the minor placings.

“It’s my first Woop Woop Cup victory, so I was pleased about that,” Peisley admitted.

“It was good to get a double on the day too, as Peter (Graham) usually dominates every year.

“In the end, Bandmaster won easily.

“He was just too good for them.

“Plus, I rode him to a T.

“I know Grant (Prosser) was thrilled to pick up three winners.

“Full credit to the Wauchope Jockey Club – it was a good track and an excellent atmosphere.”

Dunk’n’disorderly ($2.20 fav) captured the 1240m maiden plate by a handy one-and-a-half lengths from Prince Christian ($3) and Ronshaar Rose ($4).

The remaining three races belonged to Graham.

He guided Zar’s Pride ($2 fav) to an impressive five-and-a-half-length triumph in the C and D Pickering Maiden Handicap, ahead of Ivernian ($6) and third-placed My Acclaim ($2.80).

The four-year-old mare chalked up its maiden victory from 11 starts.

Graham then held off challenges from Rhonella Castel ($6) and Hastings Crown ($3.60) to win the Wauchope Retravision Benchmark 45 Handicap aboard Spike Spence ($2.70 fav).

The Ken Faulds-trained gelding registered its second success for an enthusiastic band of local owners.

Graham and Prosser also combined for a winning finale with Joyful Gold in the Wauchope RSL Club Ltd-Maxwell Ninness Memorial Benchmark 45 over 1000m.

The $1.60 favourite pipped Sensational Dream ($4.40) by a head, with Coriolis ($4.40) in third.

Unfortunately for Peisley, he’ll miss Friday’s New Year’s Day meeting at the Port Macquarie Racecourse.

The youngster received a suspension at the recent Taree-Wingham Race Club fixture and has the week off.
