Galloper's fortunes turn around

22 Mar, 2010 03:00 AM
TAREE trainers Ross Stitt and Nick Chambers have some excellent chances with their team of gallopers at tomorrow’s Taree-Wingham Race Club’s TAB meeting.

Stitt’s best appear to be Magic Zed and Clan McClymont whereas Chambers will be relying on two recent Taree winners, Briallen and Billy Will, with hopes also for Midgy Gharrat in Billy Will’s race and Island Dane, up against Clan McClymont.

Magic Zed in the Girls Day Out 3rd April Maiden Plate over 1250m has been a heartbreak horse for connections and punters, having had six seconds from nine starts, four of them at its past four starts.

Stitt said Magic Zed appeared to be following in the footsteps of other noted second placegetters, Danasosa and Opalomine, which he trained.

“Magic Zed hasn’t drawn rosy but he has done good in himself.”

Stitt said Clan McClymont would find things a little easier than when beaten into third place in a fast run-race last start, having won here three starts back.

The gelding and Island Dane could quinella the Saxby’s Diet Ginger Beer Benchmark 60 Handicap over 1400m.

Chambers and Newcastle apprentice jockey Alison Threadwell have combined for plenty of winners of late and the two could repeat the dose with Briallen in the Winning Post Function Centre 3YO Country Plate over 1300m.

They also combine with Billy Will but a lot will depend on how much was taken out of the galloper with a poor showing over 1800m at Newcastle on Saturday but it is a hardy type, which thrives on racing and must rate highly in the 2RE-Max FM Class 2 Handicap over 1600m, a distance he won at here two runs back.

Chambers said Midgy Gharrat, in the same race, must be given a hope on its Grafton run where it drew wide, got back, and ran home in very fast time, although seventh.

Island Dane has placed four times in its past five starts and continues to run honestly without much luck and is up against the very fit Clan McClymont.
