THE Port Macquarie-Hastings Hockey Association is launching the 2010 season of the McDonald’s junior competition with a fantastic off for new players.
Being mindful of the current economic climate and the expense of other junior sports, the organisation is offering an all-in one cost of $55, which includes playing fees, a hockey stick, ball, shin pads and mouth guard (uniforms may be extra depending on the club) for newcomers.
Matches will be offered in the form of mixed teams for children from five to 14 years, and under 5s, a Minkey hockey program to develop the skills of the game.
The junior season kicks off with a “Come Try Hockey Day” tomorrow, from 9am, at the Ocean Drive Complex.
“Hockey is a great team sport with players as young as four, right through to 70, playing in local competitions,” association president Jarrod Smith said.
“Hockey represents a safe, healthy, low cost alternative to other sports with a friendly-family atmosphere.
“Games take place at the one venue, limiting travel for busy families.”
