ONE talented Hastings sports star will be $2500 better off this week.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Sporting Fund will announce the winner of the 2010 Wayne Richards Sporting Talent Grant on Wednesday night.
The announcement will be made at a presentation night at Pier One, Port Macquarie Panthers.
Port Macquarie’s international cycling sensation and last year’s grant recipient, Lauren Kitchen, is the guest of honour.
Fourteen athletes from across the region are in contention for the grant.
The money is made to assist the recipient with equipment and travel costs associated with the pursuit of their sporting dreams.
The grant is named in tribute to former Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Wayne Richards.
Mr Richards died while in office in August 2003.
Wayne Richards was instrumental in the formation of the Sporting Fund in 1999.
Mr Richards was a passionate supporter of youth and sport in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.
