WATSON’S Warriors faced Men At Work in a replay of the 2008 A grade final, which was won by Men At Work in extra-time.

Both sides won their semis well with Men At Work taking out PMQ Motorcycles, who finished on top of the table, with a 3-1 win while Watson’s defeated the young Kamikaze Kickers outfit 4-1.

Watson’s took the lead early on when Angela McKechnie scored in the third minute.

A run from midfield saw McKechnie get into her opponent’s penalty box where she fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner that gave Men At Work’s keeper and Port United club mate Skye Lacey no chance.

The Warriors then pushed on and appeared the more likely to score, however the match became a tightly-fought affair and the sides changed ends with just the goal between them.

From the outset of the second half, Men At Work looked keen to equalise and they did so in just the second minute when Eden Williamson put the ball in the back of the net to level it at 1-all.

In what then became a cagey battle in midfield with few chances, McKechnie fired just wide in the seventh minute.

Shortly afterwards, Lacey kept Men At Work in it with a point blank save one-on-one against the Warriors’ Kerrie Wright.

In the 10th minute, as extra-time beckoned, Watson’s broke the deadlock when Kate Barnden fired home.

Men At Work came close in the final seconds to equalising, however Watson’s ended the game with a 2-1 advantage to take the title.
