Teen threatens cop with mystery substance

06 Jul, 2009 04:00 AM
THE tranquility of a Sunday afternoon in the heart of Port Macquarie came to an abrupt halt when a teenager allegedly threatened police officers with a mystery substance at their Hay St station yesterday.

A 14-year-old was last night undergoing a

medical assessment after being arrested, having reportedly wielded a bottle with unidentified contents into the station at lunchtime yesterday.

A chorus of sirens rang through the streets of the CBD as emergency services responded to the situation around 1.20pm.

Members of the public out for a Sunday stroll along the town’s breakwall path watched as a vehicle from the NSW Fire Service’s Hazardous Materials unit entered the station.

A NSW Police spokesman said an exclusion zone around

the station had been set up in the interest of public safety.

The area was re-opened by 3pm.

No personnel was injured and police operations remained

unaffected during the incident.

Investigations were continuing as Port News went to press.
