PORT Macquarie car lovers stepped it up a gear on the weekend.
Hundreds of people swarmed to the Port Home Zone carpark for the first annual Autobarn Show and Shine, Dyno and Sound Off.
More than 80 freshly-buffed vehicles gleamed in the sunlight at the car show as their owners raced for the top spot in the show and shine.
Doof-doof rattled car windows during the sound off and dozens of petrol-heads measured up in the dyno to see whose engine was the biggest.
But the day wasn’t just about boys and their toys.
Families flooded to Autobarn to soak up the atmosphere at the show.
Mum Jo Reilly said the event promoted “community spirit” and brought people to town.
“It gives people things to do, and a lot of young guys are into this sort of thing,” Mrs Reilly said.
Port Macquarie businessman Darren Marquett also enjoyed the day.
“It gives people a chance to show their cars that they put so much money into and let people admire them,” he said.
The show was organised by Hastings Old Holdens, Mid-North Coast Ford Owners Club and East Coast Holdens.
Ford Owners Club president Gordon Scott said it would become an annual institution.
“Our main aim was that the three car clubs get together for a major car show in Port Macquarie, which we really don’t have,” Mr Scott said.
“It’s just something different for Port Macquarie.”
Show entrants paid a fee to register their cars.
Hastings Old Holdens president Roy Craig said the money would be donated to a local charity.
He hoped to present the charity with as much as $5000.
“It just proves that there’s that many enthusiasts out there,” Mr Craig said.
“It’s really great to see Autobarn get behind the enthusiasts of the town.”
