But today, instead of one of his many flights to the big smoke to attend the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, the teenager will board an aircraft in the name of fun.

Jai, his father Phillip and 12-year-old sister Jessica, will head to Dubbo for some much needed R’n’R.

The embattled teenager, has, over the years, endured more than 80 operations.

The surgeries, plus other treatment, equate to more than 500 round-trips, to, and from Sydney.

“Angel Flight has made things so much easier,” his dad Phillip said.

“When we had to drive the trip was really taking it out of Jai and it would normally take him two or more days to recover from the trip alone.

“With Angel Flight we can be down and back in the one day.”

It was the team from Angel Flight that nominated the teenager for the respite flight to Dubbo.

“It has worked out really well because I am actually from there and Jai was born there too,” Mr Hill said.

“It is going to be great to be able to spend the weekend there and show the kids my old stomping grounds.

“Most importantly it is going to be much more relaxing than any of the other flights that we have taken to Sydney.

“Jai’s care is full-time so it is nice to have a break and go somewhere for a holiday, it is a really good, well needed break.”

Mr Hill said he couldn’t thank Angel Flight enough for everything that has been done for the family.

“It is great to have this organisation that knows what carers go through,” he said.

“We haven’t been out for tea for that long, let alone go on a holiday, so we are all very excited.”

As a part of the trip the family will visit the Taronga Western Plains Zoo where Jai said he would like to see a rhinoceros.

The family are expected to depart Port Macquarie’s airport today at around noon.
