Insulation plan foiled

10 Feb, 2010 03:00 AM
The federal government has stopped the use of foil insulation under its rebate program after four deaths.

Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett announced the suspension after electricians warned that houses were being turned into potential death traps by faulty installation of metallic insulation.

Safety for householders and installers was “an absolute priority” under the government’s Home Insulation Program, Mr Garrett said.

Householders who have safety concerns about insulation in their homes should contact a licensed electrician or the Energy Efficient Homes Hotline on 1800 808 571.
