A CAFE is destined for The Glasshouse – but just when is open to debate.
A short-term cafe plan is under consideration after Port Macquarie-Hastings Council put another proposal on hold.
The Glasshouse director Agris Celinskis said the council’s property division asked for a proposal from bookshop chain Mary Ryan’s to be put on hold until The Glasshouse “bedded itself down”.
The bookshop chain proposed to open a bookshop with an ABC franchise and small cafe.
Mary Ryan’s is a chain of nine stores operating in south-east Queensland since 1975.
“Entering into any long-term lease has its advantages and disadvantages,” Mr Celinskis said.
“It has been put on hold until we see how the building operates.”
The $50.2 million Clarence St building opened in July.
A cafe proposal from another operator is under consideration but the parties have yet to sign on the dotted line.
“While we have every intention of getting an operator in the premises, we are not able to advise the timing and when it will be up and running,” Mr Celinskis said.
A cafe, with outside dining, would be located near the bar.
