Good morning Seoul: Lucy Watson is on the air

27 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
A PORT Macquarie woman has been given the chance to work as a disc jockey at a national radio station in South Korea.

Lucy Watson is in Seoul after winning a $5000 scholarship from the Australian Korea Foundation.

The former St Joseph’s Regional and MacKillop Senior colleges student, who now is at the University of Sydney, is one of 11 students nationwide to be awarded the prestigious scholarship.

Ms Watson spent the first week of her scholarship journey at the Australian Embassy when she left the country more than a week ago.

She will spend a month producing for South Korea’s national English radio station, TBS efm.

Ms Watson grew up in Port Macquarie and moved to Sydney to study communications in 2009. She was invited to apply for the scholarship through her degree at the University of Sydney.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity from the Australia Korea Foundation and the University of Sydney,” Ms Watson said. “Working in radio is something I’ve always wanted to do, so this is my chance to do what I love in a new and exciting place.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Australia Korea Foundation is a division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was established 1992.

The foundation promotes personal and institutional relationships with Korea. Ms Watson will return on February 26, in time to start her fourth year of tertiary studies.
