Gas leak clears Port Base emergency

31 Jan, 2012 09:32 AM
AUTHORITIES were forced to evacuate Port Macquarie Base Hospital’s emergency department overnight after a gas leak.

A Mid North Coast Local Health District spokeswoman said the leak was non-toxic and had minimal effect on all involved.

But patients and staff were forced outside for about an hour while emergency services, including NSW Fire and Rescue and specialist Hazmat teams dealt with the leak.

Police blocked off traffic from the Oxley Highway at Wrights Road.

It is not yet known how many patients were in the emergency department at the time of the gas leak, about 8pm.
