Fluoride added to water in two weeks

06 Feb, 2012 02:24 PM
Fluoride will be added to Port Macquarie's water supply in two weeks.

The NSW Ministry of Health has directed Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to commence fluoridation of the district’s water supply from Tuesday, February 21.

Wauchope residents will be the first to receive fluoridated water in the reticulated water supplies servicing the Wauchope, Beechwood, Rawdon Island, Sancrox and Thrumster areas.

The level of fluoride provided to the reticulated water supplies in the Port Macquarie and Camden Haven areas will gradually increase over the next 6 to 12 months.

Reticulated water supplies at the rural villages of Comboyne, Long Flat and Telegraph Point will not be provided with fluoridated water.

Fluoride will be added to the water supply to achieve a concentration of 1mg/litre (1ppm) +/- 5% (allowable range is 0.95ppm to 1.05ppm).

The operation of the centralised fluoridation dosing plant will initially result in a gradual increase in the level of fluoride provided to the majority of water consumers supplied by the Hastings District Water Supply Scheme.

This gradual increase in fluoride content will be due to the initial dilution of the fluoridated water (1 mg/L of fluoride content) supplied from the Rosewood Reservoir site, which is piped into the Port Macquarie Off-Creek Storage Dam.

The existing stored water in the Port Macquarie Off-Creek Storage Dam has a current natural level of fluoride of approximately 0.1 mg/L.

Hey Kiki, it would be good if they were giving us better quality flouride. From my understanding, what we will cop is industrial waste. And why is NSW Health so keen to push this? Any underhanded deals going on? Earlier referendums in this town were not positive to industrial waste being pumped into our water supply...

Fluoride exposure has been linked to many health problems, including hip fractures, neurological damage, ADD/ADHD, lead poisoning, Alzheimer's Disease, birth defects, skeletal fluorosis, dental fluorosis, early onset of puberty, immune system suppression, bone cancer and other rare forms of cancer - Thanks for putting Fluoride in our water supply.

It also causes low thyroid activity or Hashimoto's disease. We have just spent $10,000 installing rain water tanks to avoid Melbournes town water contaminated with fluoride, laced with arsenic, lead and cadmium. According to he Australian Drinking Water Standards 2004, the concentrations of these depend on industrial waste from the fertiliser industry. In a true democratic society, we would have the choice about fluoride.

@ Fluoride is poison

Dont make me laugh! you could not even make this up! It is well known that ADHD is well over diagnosed for a kick off! and at best- all the fast foods our youth eat, and smoking and drinking, is far worse that what Fluoride brings.. All you are doing is causing a fear campaign.

Boo!!

Just chemical companies conning the health department into taking their toxic leftovers from fertilizer manufacturing.

A great big con.

Dreadful news. Idiot bureaucrats ruining good quality drinking water.

What chemical company is providing (pushing) it? And how much is it costing?

Can anyone out there advise on a water filter that will filter this rubbish out of the water?

Furious that we're losing our clean drinking water.

As a Councillor candidate for our local government elections here in September, I oppose the introduction of fluoride to the Hastings water supply. A clear majority of the community said NO to its introduction when last polled on the issue in 1991. I have not seen anything in recent times as far as an overwhelming argument FOR its introduction and in this regard, I feel that the latest poll result however dated it may seem, should stand as a NO THANKS.
