Fairy-tale ending not pure fantasy

For more than 35 years Fantasy Glades in Port Macquarie created fairy-tale memories for about three-million visitors.

Now the last remaining portion of the tourism icon, complete with the Old Woman's Shoe and Cinderella's Castle is for sale, opening up a unique opportunity for a developer to create a new family-based, eco-attraction for the Hastings.

Fantasy Glades and Peppermint Park were two of Port Macquarie's top tourist attractions in their heyday and the closure of both parks has left a gap in the provision of affordable family-based, centrally located tourist attractions.

Listing agent Rex Patterson said the parcel of land offered great opportunity for the imaginative buyer as the 6(c) zoning meant it must be used for private recreation-style redevelopment.

"This offers someone the opportunity to utilise the site in an environmentally friendly manner," Mr Patterson said.

"It could be a commercial enterprise that incorporates the natural environment or integrates an eco-tourist facility.

"Council has not been approached but it may certainly be something they might be interested in. This is a real one-off buy."

Parts of the site have already been zoned and developed for residential use. The remaining 16,822m2 of the undulating rainforest site, which is mostly zoned 6(c) Private Recreation remains.

This parcel of land is the largest remaining site of its kind on the beachside end of Port Macquarie.

"Port Macquarie is desperately crying out for family oriented tourist attractions and this unique area could represent the final opportunity to provide something like this near one of our best beachside areas," Mr Patterson added.
