Beaches hammered

08 Feb, 2010 03:00 AM
STORMY seas and rain kept many beachgoers at home over the weekend.

Flynns Beach even closed on Saturday due to rough conditions and an influx of bluebottles.

Surf lifesaver Andrew Gordon, pictured right, was nonetheless kept busy pointing out the dangerous conditions.

A spokeswoman from the Bureau of Meteorology at Coffs Harbour said there was heavy rain and large swells on much of the Mid-North Coast over the weekend.

Port Macquarie had more than 32mm of rain.

Rain is expected to clear to isolated showers in the first half of this week.

The large swells, which reached 2-3m yesterday, also were expected to abate.
