POLICE have arrested five youths in relation to a graffiti and vandalism spree in the Emerald Downs and Lighthouse Beach areas last week.

The Port Macquarie boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on Wednesday night and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Detective Inspector Mick Heap said the youths made admissions in relation to spray painting vehicles and businesses on January 28 and 29.

"We want to thank the community for their information as to who the young offenders were," Insp Heap said.

"We are only as good as the people who give us the information."

Five cars were vandalised, along with a caravan, bottle shop, Tacking Point Lighthouse and Emerald Downs Estate office.

"Police are very pleased with the results," Insp Heap said.

"We have an on-going commitment toward property-related crime and malicious damage in the Port Macquarie area."

Insp Heap said there were a number of options available to police under the Young Offenders Act, ranging from an official caution to a conference in front of the offender's victims.

"It's not dealt with lightly," he said.
